Happy Place, Happy Space
This week sees the culmination of Younger Child’s dance film project, Seeds: Here Not Here.

After several weeks of mad rehearsals, filming took place in the Black Box of The Theatre Practice on Waterloo Street.
Waterloo Street … was chosen to commemorate the Duke of Wellington’s victory over the French at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 … Today, Waterloo Street is part of the Bras Basah Bugis Precinct, the arts, culture, learning and entertainment district in the city’s centre.

While she was busy dancing, we made the most of the waiting: we hung out with Older Child and ate food. On one occasion, at Crossings Cafe, and on another, Wonder Gelato.
Crossings Café is a social enterprise that serves quality food at great prices. Nourishing connections in the community is at the heart of our business.
About Us, Crossings Cafe
This is a place we patronise often. We support social enterprises as much as we can, and it doesn’t hurt that they serve delicious food at a reasonable price.

- On the table, from top: Citrus Salad, Otak Sandwiches with achar (pickled vegetables) and keropok (prawn crackers), fries, chicken wings
- Loving Husband’s carefully arranged & photographed still life
Wonder Gelato is a small family run cafe serving home-made gelato and croissant sandwiches.
On our first visit, while stuffing our faces with Blueberry Marscapone (me) and Salt Bay (Older Child), we overheard the Bosses discussing new flavours. We heard “peach gum” 😄 “durian” 😕 … (Betsy – I’m thinking of you!)

On the second visit, it was freshly made churros, with mini scoops of Salt Bay & Milo ice creams.

The theatre building looks fabulous with that turquoise blue and architectural details. It’s great to have yummy eateries and ice cream place nearby while you’re waiting. Thank you for the mention and for your weekend coffee share.

Love the building. It’s always great when you find somewhere that has good food and reasonable prices as well. Eating out has gotten really expensive in the last couple years!

I hear you, Janet. While we understand why the prices continue to rise, it makes it quite challenging to support these enterprises when we have to watch our budget

Durian ice cream! Ice cream is hard for me to not love. I would try that! It might be a good segue into the fruit itself. Or perhaps it would be better to try them in reverse order. 🙂
Thanks for thinking of me, Ju-Lyn!

Forget the fruit, Betsy! Durian ice cream, cream puffs, cake … more than enough!

True. But I feel like not trying the authentic original would be cheating.

Dance seems to be a popular pursuit with the younger ones. I enjoy Singapore’s buildings and can see why the gelato place is a favourite happy spot.

Dance is a wonderful gateway into the expressive & creative arts – I am glad there are these avenues for them to explore – it used to be there were only classes for the younger children. Now, there are even classes for adults.
So happy to have you delight in my neighbourhood!

No. My son lived in Shandong until about a year ago. The farthest south I got was Guilin.
