The Giant Sticky Bun

Happy Place, Happy Space

Ooey goey deliciousness …. but is it a cake? a pie? nope! a sticky bun.

Even after explanation, this bake created consternation and confusion; it’s the shape & size, I reckon. Many baffled conversations and slices of happiness this week (we shared the bake: the recipe from King Arthur Baking makes 2 of these giants).

      1. I love the Bolo Bun – and the coconut bun and the BBQ bun. To be honest – I loved virtually everything I ever ate in Hong Kong. Now that I’ve become a pescatarian and I’m avoiding carbs my choices would be far more limited. Oh to be young again…(but really, wouldn’t want to repeat it all).


        1. Hong Kong really is a culinary adventure. We lived there for 3 years when I was finishing up high school and I have to say I was quite excruciated on many occasions by my father’s food adventures (I, unlike the rest of my family, am not particularly daring in strange eats). Pastries & sweets, on the hand, I loved loved loved .

    1. Sounds funny, right? slice of bun! It was an interesting experience having a sticky bun sliced like this – I have to say, although I would absolutely make this again, I do miss unraveling my sticky bun.

  3. Hi Ju-Lyn,

    The only way to improve a sticky bun is to make it giant size.
    Wow! That looks amazing, and fun and would crater my blood sugar in sticky-gooie joy.

    But do I have a story to share? It’s winter here (about an hour north of San Francisco) but we are low enough that we rarely get snow. But we get plenty of gray days and foggy mornings.
    We even have a particularly thick kind of fog sometimes in certain places and one day when I was in high school and loved my group of friends, we took a hike together. Normally, our hikes were in the afternoon on much warmer days but for some reason one day, we did things differently and this story resulted.

    I hope you enjoy our situation from the comfort of a warm and dry comfy chair, but still feel the cold and damp along with the friendship of a certain gang of friends.

    1. Upsizing always looks so impressive …. I think I like unfurling my traditionally shaped sticky buns, though. Having it sliced like a cake takes that joy out of it (I say this having devoured and thoroughly enjoyed The Giant).
