The Changing Seasons, December 2021

Looking back at the month

Welcome to the December 2021 Edition of The Changing Seasons. Brian and I are so happy to have you join us.

❄️ ❄️ ❄️

As I longingly gaze upon your winterscapes, dear Blog Friends, we have braved rain storms and humid sun-drenched days while attempting to get into the festive spirit in Singapore.

When I start to feel a little sorry for myself, I think about Younger Child:

Christmas is one of my favourite holidays. This year, it has been hard because I am missing family around the world. To think of traveling makes me miss London (note: we used to spend every other Christmas in London with family; we have not been for some time now).

This past year, memories made with family have been different: on Zoom, short visits, talking on the phone. If I look deep into my heart I can be thankful for the new ways we connect.

Most of the outdoor photographs were taken in the Singapore Botanic Gardens (including the feature photo). Loving Husband & I with the Candy Canes are on Orchard Road.

❄️ ❄️ ❄️

This month we wrapped up the Singapore Camino project Loving Husband & I began in January this year. As we reflected on the runs we’ve made to & around our Catholic churches in Singapore, we decided we would make another pass at the churches, this time according to their feast days; visiting them on their special days.

About The Changing Seasons

The Changing Seasons is a monthly project where bloggers around the world share their thoughts and feelings about the month just gone. We all approach this slightly differently — though generally with an emphasis on the photos we’ve taken during the month.

For many of us, looking back over these photos provides the structure and narrative of our post, so each month is different. Some focus on documenting the changes in a particular project — such as a garden, an art or craft project, or a photographic diary of a familiar landscape.

But in the end, it is your changing season, and you should approach it however works for you.

There are no fixed rules around post length or photo number — just a request that you respect your readers’ time and engagement.

  1. Travelling to London for Christmas sounds like a delightful dream – and you would experience the full English festive spirit. With the new year we hope comes new possibilities. Your Singapore Camino was a fantastic way for us readers to see more of Singapore. Will there be a Camino Mk II?

  2. Thank you for sharing Younger Child’s reflections, both yearning and wise. May we all look deep into our hearts and find the love and faith there.

The Singapore Camino has been so inspiring. I look forward to the next Camino, by feast day. (Speaking of which, have you ever read Karen Cushman’s young adult book “Catherine, Called Birdy”? It’s presented as a diary by a European girl in the Middle Ages organized around Feast Days. If your library has it, you might enjoy it!)

  3. I absolutely adore you for coming up with the Singapore Camino project. It is a true testament to your human spirit and ability to pivot and be grateful even when things do not go your way or as planned. I am thrilled to follow along with the 2022 version. The past two years have taught us all to redefine so many things but I think at our core remaining true to our values, our faith, our love and our selves has and will continue to carry us through. Much love in the New Year. I look forward to following along all of your adventures.

  5. My piece will be up tomorrow morning. I’ve been following this challenge now for a full decade. It’s amazing how much the world has changed since it began — and speaking of the changing seasons — how very MUCH they have changed and seem to be continuing to change. May something good come of it!
