Back on the Slopes
About a month ago, I began a running challenge for Mercy Relief Singapore: 100km running/walking/biking in about 30 days. It was shortly after that I tore my left calf muscle. I am very chuffed that despite the temporary setback, I completed this challenge walking/running my rehab in the Learning Forest.
This week, I find myself leaving the comfort & safety of the Learning Forest in search of inclines. One of these is the Gallop extension where there is a nice long slope up to this bright, sunshiny view:
Since I haven’t been up here in a while, I stopped for a bit to visit with Antony Gormley’s “Contract”.
Here’s a song which I thought appropo for the oocasion, after Tracy’ Friday Songs at Reflections of an Untidy Mind.
This post is my contribution to
- One Word Sunday: Bright hosted by Debbie at Travel With Intent
- Photographing Public Art Challenge (PPAC) hosted by Cee’s Photo Challenges
Why is the sculpture called “Contract”? It looks like he’s about to take a seat or maybe he’s about to stand up.

Glad you are feeling better. Sometimes just recovering from an injury is enough to brighten the spirit on its own. Definitely extra to find the bright side of that hill too. Donna

You live in a beautiful area. I hope that you’re able to get back to running, if that’s something you want to do.

Tearing a calf muscle sounds super painful. I’m glad you are doing better. I love your statue. I think that’s how I stand sometimes! 🙂 Thanks for playing along this week, Ju-Lyn. 🙂

So much loveliness in your city! I went for a ahem, short, cough cough, run this morning. Perhaps I can work up to your level by the time I come visit all those statues with you. 😉 And then celebrate afterward with a stinky durian. Heehee.

🙂 🙂 And let’s not forget that ice cream sandwich stand! (Maybe I’ll need it to wash out the durian taste. 😉 )
Thank you for your across the world encouragement! 🙂

They do have durian ice cream as well, you know! Not that I’ve tried it!!!! Mango or sweet corn for me! Maybe chocolate, raspberry ripple ….
On on! Betsy!

Durian ice cream! Two in one! Sweet corn ice cream also sounds intriguing. I’ll have to run a LOT to work off all this food I want to try. 🙂

Congratulations on your 100 km, especially in light of the temporary setback. You should indeed be “chuffed” (what a great word). Thank you also for introducing me to the Gallop extension. (And yay, Jimmy Cliff!)

Just heard yesterday that one race participant completed the 100km in one go!!!! Hurray for him/her! We will just celebrate our own achievement & pat ourselves on our backs anyhow!
Thank you for coming along with me to the Gallop extension & for listening/watching Jimmy Cliff – appreciate so much your company!

Me too. One of those songs that played in the car a lot when I was growing up. Haven’t heard this version so it was good fun!

I feel pretty good – I am still mindful when I take uphills, to make sure I keep the correct form (apparently I was pushing off with my calves, instead of lifting off from my glutes).
Thank you for cheering me on!
