Oppositional Sculptures
Our last overseas holiday was a road trip to Malaysia in January 2020: we visited with family in Ipoh, and popped into Kuala Lumpur for a few days to visit museums & enjoy the local cuisine. While there, we stayed at the Element Kuala Lumpur which is housed in Ilham Tower.

This larger than life sculpture was found at the far end of the lift lobby leading up to the hotel.
This funny guy greeted us as we came out of the elevator in search of the Ilham Gallery, which was in the same building (but accessed by a different set of elevators) as our hotel. Which was serendipitously convenient as there were exhibitions we wanted to see.
This post is my contribution to:
- One Word Sunday: Opposing hosted by Debbie at Travel With Intent
- Photographing Public Art Challenge (PPAC) hosted by Cee at Cee’s Photo Challenges & Marsha at Always Write.
Sculptures that catch the eye.

Thank you for sharing these fascinating sculptures. And good for the hotel for choosing such dynamic public art!

I’ve realised that many hotels in Singapore & Malaysia support local artists – and increasingly, these are displayed with public access in mind.

We thought them so – and to access these so easily where we were staying was a bonus.
