great expectations

Happy Place, Happy Space

No heritage tomatoes this week,

Instead, a huge bag of delectable cherry tomatoes.

I look forward to my almost weekly Surprise Bundle from UglyFood, my small but delicious contribution to reducing food waste.

Not what I expected (we enjoyed heritage tomotoes in our bundles two weeks in a row), but I immediately dream of a cherry tomato galette. Happy thoughts. Any thoughts of what else should go into this galette?

Reading your Joyful Posts brings me to my happy place. I hope having them in one place makes it easier for you to find when you need a bit of happy therapy, too.

If you would like to join in, ping back to this post and I will include you next week.

There are plenty of tomatoes in the bag, even after my galette is made & demolished: any other suggestions for this lovely bag of cherry tomatoes?

        1. I think that’s the rebel in me … just always have to fiddle with a prescription. I usually will start with a recipe, or a photograph, or a taste. Sometimes it’s more challenging to get where I want to be with a dish.

  2. Those tomatoes look delicious. I like them in a colorful Caprese salad with a bit of mozzarella chunks, fresh basil and an olive oil and balsamic vinegar glaze. Thanks for including me in your link-up.

    1. They looks rather good but am afraid not as great as those of our BlogFriends who are eating them off the vine. They do improve with roasting and cooking though – heat seems to bring out their deliciousness!

  3. A local farm delivers a small package of produce to us each week, and it is tomato season, with many different types πŸ™‚ No suggestions, but enjoy your “ugly” food!

    1. I love it that you are able to enjoy seasonal produce with your farm delivery! One of the reasons I enjoy my Surprise bundles so much – except “the season” here is whatever is in access.

  4. Hi Ju-Lyn.
Thanks for sharing out my story above. Such fun memories!
About those cherry tomatoes, I love tomatoes in almost any form, but one of my favorites right off the vine is to just pop them into my mouth for a great treat. These really are almost as tasty as hard candy.

    1. I can imagine that these delectable fruit would taste so different off the vine than what we get at the supermarket! An experience I have yet to enjoy.

      1. I wish there were a way to share some of what we have in multiple baskets. You are unlikely to ever find plums like this in any store because they are too fragile and don’t tolerate much handling. You need to find a tree (and presumably its owner). A peer blogger from Scotland has recommended I slice them open, dash on some brandy and lightly BBQ them. But I can’t see this working because as soon as the skin is broken open, so much of the juice is lost and the ‘meat’ of the fruit is the opposite of firm. Maybe my wife and I can find a way to bake a few as as experiment.
I hope you get a chance to try them. You clearly have the taste to enjoy such things and I can’t but see you enjoying tree fresh plums.

        1. You are absolutely right! Tree-fresh anything is not a common experience for me. It all sounds so mysterious and delightful! Appreciate your taking me on this journey, even if for a while!

    1. That looks so delicious, Jo! I have the tomatoes, Greek yogurt … No cumin seeds – I wonder if mustard seeds will do. And I have a variety of chilli flakes, as well as the other ingredients. I could make this happen! Thank you so much for the link!

  5. Cherry tomatoes are lovely! We have 8 big cherry tomato plants at our balcony at the moment. They have blessed as with a big harvest so far. However, come evening there are never any cherry tomatoes left, no matter how big the harvest is. The whole family LOVES to snack on them, and they tend to disappear. Thank you for the pingback. I’d love to see what you end up doing with your tomatoes πŸ™‚

      1. Thank you, yes it’s 180sqf, and when the cooler months arrives I have glass panels to screen it in with, turning it into a green house. I live in a passive house.

    1. I am just scrolling through the cherry tomato recipes on SkinnyTaste … soooooo many, as you’ve said. I am particularly taken that many of these can be done in no time at all … I like the look of the Whipped Ricotta Toast with Roasted Tomatoes.

Have used recipes from this site before although I haven’t looked in for a while – thanks for sending me back!

  6. Have you tried the baked feta and tomatoes pasta ? Even if you don’t have feta cheese, you can mix you tomatoes with olive oil, minced garlic, salt & pepper and roast in hot 400F oven for 20-minutes, then toss everything with pasta. Moisten with some of the pasta cooking water if it needs it. Serve with fresh herbs and cheese. Its good warm and even good the next day as a pasta salad.

    1. I second Sandy’s suggestion. It comes out amazing! A cherry tomato galette sounds really good too. I’m planning on making another tomato galette, but I am thinking of adding shallots to mix.
